'1833': SPEAKEASY IN THE CELLARS OF CITY BREWERY DE KONINCK
City Brewery De Koninck gets a new neighbor: 1833. Joachim Verbrugghe and his wife Stella Smeulders moved into the cellars of De Koninck. There in a speakeasy (a hidden bar) they give tastings of exclusive beers and artisanal food.
Who descends the stairs towards the beautiful cellars of the brewery, takes a dive into the past. The setting is mysterious. The atmospheric interior of 1833 catapults you right back in time. Eye catchers are the wooden barrels in which special beer matures on the spot. During a two-hour session Joachim takes you on a (culinary) discovery for your senses. Guests are treated to stories, different unique (sometimes exclusive) beer tastings with pairings from the crafts. But not only your taste buds will be stimulated: during the experience all kinds of things happen around you.
Joachim Verbrugghe: "Don't think it’s a boring history lesson where we all sit down and watch old slides. I’m not going to talk for two hours either. I'll give a short explanation about the beers and the food pairings and come up with a surprising intermezzo once in a while. That can be a video or an anecdote, but just as well a special guest. Frederic Van Tricht who talks passionately about his cheeses or Sven Dekleermaeker, the master brewer who gives a preview of a new beer for example.
